Overview
Small Gestures is a Vanderbilt Volunteer Organization. The purpose of Small Gestures is to serve disadvantaged children and to educate the Vanderbilt community about issues affecting child welfare. Small Gestures organizes various events and projects that provide aid to diverse organizations. Different activities include babysitting, going on hospital visits to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University, making and distributing food to the homeless, tutoring, and clerical work. We believe that every person and every contribution makes a difference. Therefore, membership is open to all.

History
Small Gestures was first created in the Spring of 2001, and became an official Vanderbilt student organization in the Fall of 2002. During our first two years, Small Gestures has accomplished many of its goals. Past activities of Small Gestures include: monthly visits to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, the creation and distribution of care packages, Letter - Writing Workshops, Pediatric Cancer Survivor's Day at Nashville's Zoo in Grassmere, Family Diabetes Day, Reach Out and read Program, Lily's Garden, Vanderbuddies Playday, Meharry/Vanderbilt Community Day, assisting Youth Encouragement Services, Halloween toy donations, costume making, and the Halloween parade.
