Thinking About the Final Exam

Choose two of the units listed below and discuss their shared investment in, or relation to, one common topic or issue (such as language, group identification, equal rights, television, censorship, stereotypes, gender, race, class, sexuaity, etc).  Come up with a thesis that argues how those investments are similar and how their approaches are different.  Mention as many different authors/articles from each unit that you consider to be useful in support of your argument (no less than on eper unit, though).

Units to choose from:    Freedom of speech            Gender
                                   Advertising                        AIDS
                                   Television                         Cultural heroes
                                   Multiculturalism

You may bring with you to the final a 3 x 5 card (or a 3 x 5 piece of paper) with notes on it.  I will supply the paper on which you will write your essay.

Suggestions:  Be specific.  Use examples when possible.  Make an outline first.  Consider discussion one unit's approach to your issue first, then the other, then compare/contrast.
