English 105W Exam "Full of sound and fury": Signifying . . .?
This exam is designed to give the class an opportunity to think about the themes of power and violence in a broad context. We have read nearly 1000 pages and 9 plays spanning over 2000 years of history. This assignment asks you to consider 3 plays that are most important to you and select one scene of dialogue or stage direction that captures most vividly the most significant or critical acts of violence or power. You example may be a single quotation or an extended exchange or a single stage direction.
Once you have selected your 3 moments most important to your understanding of how violence and/or power operates, type them on a separate sheet and prepare an outline (a bullet list) of reasons why these scenes are representative of what your understanding of the themes of this course are. You will turn in your work to me after you share with the class your examples and explanations.

The purpose of this final assignment is to get you to think about the movement of this course over the semester. I hope that each student has his/her own understanding of what the "sound and fury" of this course means. I will not interrupt your presentations, as my goal is to end the semester of English 105W with your own voice--that is, with our own examples and interpretations of violence and power on stage.

Good luck on the final paper and on your preparations for this exam.
