Edit That Sentence!

Following are fourteen passages, two from each paper received on Thursday.  Using your Bedford Handbook, do the following for each:  (1) locate its main problem or problems and (2) rewrite it.  Note:  many sentences contain more than one error.

1. This example is used to show how restrictions on speech are being enacted at work, and thus restrictions of free speech on college campuses is a logical and hopefully purposeful next step.
2. No person should feel abused due to their beliefs, and no person should feel they have to be involved in a discussion which offends them.
3. Those in favor of codes, such as Charles R. Lawrence III, argue that racial insults are actually opposed to the intentions of the First Amendment; therefore, they should be classified under the "fighting words" exception to the First Amendment outlined by the Supreme Court.
4. Especially in a university of such excellent academic caliber and social pressure due to a high degree of superficiality, one must restrain his tongue in order to avoid offending John Doe, son of a famous politician.
5. College being a time for one to expand his mind and become more open to other beliefs, the only way for one to better understand himself and his morals is to be doused in a community which forces him to think what he really believes in.
6. Freedom of speech, taken as an abstract ideal, is universally accepted in almost all of the country as a fundamental tenet of our national identity and value system.
7. People should be allowed to regulate these basic freedoms being college students.
8. Freedom of speech may allow individuals and groups the chance to voice their views and organize rallies, but it also silences the minorities and oppresses at which the speech aims if used unfairly.
9. If students act like the mature and intelligent leaders they claim to be on university campuses, they should be able to shoulder the moral responsibility of issue and treat freedom of speech with the reverence that it deserves..
10. Speaking is one of the most common things to humans; one of the five senses.
11. There may in fact be rules of regulation; these rules obviously being ineffective.
12. With this policy, a person should honor and respect others' personal beliefs, and in doing so, this person should not do or say anything that is known to be offensive.
13. These exceptions include 'fighting words' -- those words designed to injure or harm someone or create a dangerous situation.
14. Students are part of a learning environment which requires study time-quiet time.
