We investigate the mechanisms that specify cerebellar precursor cells for distinct neuronal fates. In particular, we are interested in the role of Hedgehog signaling in specifying Purkinje neurons, the principal output neuron of the cerebellum. We use a combination of mutant analysis, transgenic reporter genes and pharmocological inhibition of Hedgehog signaling.
