Getting Started - Student To Do List
- Sign up for the course at Project Galileo’s Interactive Learning Toolkit (ILT). http://www.deas.harvard.edu/galileo/students/enroll/?courseID=1097. This is where you will submit answers to the warm-up questions BEFORE each lecture. This is also where I will post the clicker questions AFTER each lecture. While you are here, you should look at the warm-up questions for the first reading assignment. For ILT enrollment, just use your student ID number for both your student ID and your PRS Unit ID.
- You will need to return to the ILT course site to submit answers to these questions by Friday morning at 8 am CST (http://www.deas.harvard.edu/galileo/students/?courseID=1097). Note that the ILT servers are on the east coast and display Eastern Standard Time - so when ILT says the questions are due by 9 am (EST), then you won't be able to submit after 8 am CST. Remember that I will grade your responses here solely on effort. If you demonstrate that you have read the material and thought about the question, you will earn full credit.
- Follow this link to take a Physics Background Test. This test should take less than 60 minutes. If the system times out on you during the test (it will do so if you don't put in any responses for more than 3 minutes), then send me an email and I can allow you to retake the test. You will get credit towards your clicker/reading quiz score simply by completing this online test (regardless of how well you do). You will login to take the test using the same email and password that you used to register for ILT (so do that first). You have until Sunday at 10:55 pm CST (it will say 11:55 EST on the server) to take the test, but the sooner, the better.
- Register your clicker. Go to the Clickers page of the course website to make sure you have the right one. Then, fill out the webform at the bottom of the page. Please input your student ID number into your clicker (follow directions that come with the clicker). This student ID number must match up with the one you used when you registered. It should also match up with your ILT registration.
- Sign up for the MasteringPhysics (MP) online homework system. Follow the instructions on the Homework page of the course website. The course ID is MPHUTSON2006. Two problem sets will be due next week. PS #0 is an introduction to MP and is due Monday at 7 pm. You get full credit simply by completing it on time (so open all the hints and put some wrong answers in on purpose to see how MP behaves). PS #1 is then a short set of problems from Chapter 1 due Tuesday at 7 pm.
- Make sure you are enrolled in a lab section (Physics 119A). Labs begin Monday.
