I am a graduate student working with David Furbish.  My M.S. research involves examination of geomorphic-ecological response of coastal salt marshes to sea-level changes.

Geologic Mapping and Interpretation of Carolina Terrane Rocks in the Woodlawn and Aonia Quadrangles, Georgia
Advisor: Dr. Kelly Vance, Georgia Southern University Dept. Geology and Geography

My senior thesis project involves geologic mapping, petrography, geochemistry, x-ray diffraction, and geographic information systems (GIS).  The map area covers a portion of the Carolina slate belt along the GA-SC border. Detailed geology within many areas of the Carolina slate belt is poorly understood due to inadequate mapping, deep weathering, and lack of continuous exposures. The focus of the study includes:
1.  Determine the nature of the contact between the Persimmon Fork and Richtex lithotypes
2.  Interpret the paleo-depositional environment in the map area
3.  Utilize GIS to integrate previous work

Interpretations and Conclusions:
1. Interlaying of the Persimmon Fork lithotypes and Richtex lithotypes suggest a facies relationship between the two formations.
2.  Facies relationship reflects the proximal~ distal changes in rock characteristics of the original depositional environment.
3.  Rocks are predominantly subaqueous deposits situated along the flanks of a volcanic center that was probably part of an intra-arc basin.
