The Accelerator Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research laboratory focusing on the science and applications of thin films and nanostructures, with particular emphasis on electronic properties that are important for semiconductor device technology and the emerging field of optical devices. The overall goal of much of the work is to understand the physics of materials at the most fundamental level and to use this knowledge to create solid structures with new or optimized properties. The laboratory houses a 2 MeV Van de Graaff accelerator for general ion beam analytical work, a high stability 300 keV accelerator for time-of-flight medium energy ion beam analyses and an array of complementary instruments for thin film growth, processing, and characterization.
