2. Sign up for the MasteringPhysics (MP) online homework system.
Follow the instructions on the
Homework page of the course website. The course ID ifor section 1 (Prof. Ernst) is MPERNST2007 and for section2 (Prof. Sheldon) is MPSHELDON2007.
Two problem sets will be due next week. PS #0 is an introduction to MP and is due by 9 pm on Monday (Ernst) or Tuesday (Sheldon). You get full credit simply by completing it on time (so open all the hints and put some wrong answers in on purpose to see how MP behaves).
PS #1 is then a short set of problems from Chapter 1 due at 9pm on either Tuesday (Ernst) or Wednesday (Sheldon).
3. Make sure you are enrolled in a lab section (Physics 119A).
Labs begin Monday.
4. Take the Physics Background Test.
You can access this test from the "Assignments" page of the ILT website. This test should take less than 60 minutes. If the system times out on you during the test (it will do so if you don't put in any responses for more than 3 minutes), then send me an email and I can allow you to retake the test.
You will get credit towards your reading quiz score simply by completing this online test (regardless of how well you do). You have until Wednesday at 9pm central time to take the test, but the sooner, the better. Also note that the website may say the test is due at 10pm, but that is likely to be eastern time (see item 5 below).
5. You will need to go to the ILT course site to submit answers to the reading questions no later than one hour prior to each class.
Note that the ILT servers are on the east coast and in the past we have had trouble with them displaying deadlines in eastern time - so if the ILT site says the questions are due by 10 am, then you may not be able to submit answers after 9 am CST.
Remember that I will grade your responses here solely on effort. If you demonstrate that you have read the material and thought about the question, you will earn full credit.
