Ph.D. Texas Tech University (1977). Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Science, Associate Professor of Spanish.
My research interests are centered around linguistics and I have taught a wide range of language and linguistics courses from the first year courses to the graduate course in foreign language teaching methodology. I'm currently working on a book on Spanish morphology with Prof. Emeritus J. Richard Andrews. I have been in the Dean's Office since 1983 where my duties include organizing and implementing the pre-major advising program and advising students and monitoring their academic progress. I continue to teach one course per semester.
I was on the committee that established the McTyeire International House in 1980 and continue to oversee that project from the Dean's Office. I have been involved in the state organization of AATSP, serving two years as president and every year have coordinated the offering of the National Spanish Exam on campus. Since 1988, I have been a member of the Board of the Tennessee Foreign Language Teaching Association and I am currently serving as treasurer. In 1983 I received the Madison Sarratt Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching and in 199 for excellence in undergraduate teaching and in 1995 I received the Jacqueline Elliot Award for meritorious service in the field of higher education in foreign languages.
