Department of Religious Studies
Why Major or Minor in Religious Studies?
A Major in Religious Studies (by itself or as part of a double major) provides an excellent inter-disciplinary and multicultural liberal education that has application for any career that involves assessing personal and social situations, including medicine, law, the ministry, communications and politics.
Our courses are designed to help students:
  • gain more insight into their own religious tradtions and views
  • understand people and cultures of other religious traditions
  • recognize the role played by religion in all aspects of human life and experience
The Major requires courses in two areas:
  1. Methods for the study of religions -- including historical, psychological, literary, anthropological and sociological approaches
  2. Religion in Culture and history -- a look at other religious traditions in their own settings
