NSF Awards RTG Grant

To NCGOA Research Group

The National Science Foundation has recently awarded a Research Training Group (RTG) grant to Vanderbilt's research group in noncommutative geometry (NCGOA). The Co-PI's on the grant are Distinguished Professor of Mathematics Alain Connes and Professors of Mathematics Dietmar Bisch, Bruce Hughes, Gennadi Kasparov and Guoliang Yu. This grant will support students and postdocs interested in working in noncommutative geometry/topology and operator algebras at Vanderbilt University as well as the yearly NCGOA Spring Institutes. Vanderbilt is one of only six recipients of this type of grant, newly instituted by the NSF this year.

Vanderbilt is currently recruiting two non-tenure-track assistant professors in the areas of noncommutative geometry/topology and operator algebras (beginning fall 2005). These positions are supported by the RTG grant. They are intended for recent Ph.D.'s who are U.S. citizens or residents with demonstrated research potential and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The University is also offering stipends for graduate students interested in noncommutative geometry and stipends for summer research experiences for undergraduate students (note: same eligibility criteria as for the assistant professor positions).
