![]() Department Hosts Peter Hilton, WWII German Code-Breaker And Alan Turing Associate Mathematician Peter Hilton, who worked with Alan Turing in World War II to break German Enigma and Geheimschreiber codes, spoke of his experiences to a crowd of more than 200 at Vanderbilt University's Department of Mathematics Oct. 15, 2004.
Hilton, a distinguished professor emeritus at SUNY of Binghamton’s Mathematical Sciences Department, shared details of the coding machines and techniques used by the Germans, and explained how Alan Turing and his team succeeded in breaking the codes.
Hilton's presentation kicked off the Fall Southeastern Section Meeting of the American Mathematical Society, which was hosted by Vanderbilt University Oct. 16-17, 2004.
