Researchers believe a device that treats electrical malfunctions in the heart is so effective at preventing sudden death that very ill patients are living long enough to develop heart failure. The results direct attention to an urgent need in cardiology to better address, in tandem, risk for sudden cardiac death and heart failure common to many patients, according to a study published today in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
