Vanderbilt currently has eight major and many other local email environments providing electronic messaging services to the Vanderbilt populace. A combined team from ITS and NCS has begun a program initiative to architect an email environment that will provide a long term messaging direction, offer an improved integrated messaging solution and stabilize performance on the current infrastructure in the meantime.

  •     Strategic Messaging Architecture
    • Minimum Architectural Standards - A committee is being formed to discuss minimum architectural standards for electronic messaging at Vanderbilt University. Major systems owners are being identified and invited to participate in developing standards.

    • VUExchange:
      • VUExchange Key Events (NOTE: When viewing the VUExchange Key Events and Drawings, you must use Internet Explorer. Service Pack 2 users may also need to "Allow Blocked Content" in order to have full functionality)
      • VUExchange Phase Drawings:
    • VUmail IMAP/Groupmail:
      • As part of an overall email replacement project, Information Technology Services (ITS) is planning an upgrade to the VUmail IMAP3 server. IMAP3 hosts mailboxes for those people who have VUnetIDs beginning with P-Z.  IMAP3 will be taken offline at 8:00pm on Monday, December 19th and should be back online at approximately 3:00am Tuesday, December 20th.  Once the upgrade is complete, mailboxes on IMAP3 will be using new hardware.
    • VUmail Webmail: 
      • Testing on a new webmail solution continues.  Testing is designed for around 100 users, unfortunately only approximately 30 users have volunteered to participate.  If you are interested in testing the prototype solution, please see the news items section at http://its.vanderbilt.edu for additional information.
    • VUmailguard Anti-spam:
  •     Division of Administration (DOA) Email Migration 
    • The DOA email migration officially began on November 1, 2005. Local Support Providers are actively migrating users they support and have gotten off to a great start. For group level information, please click on the thumbnail below.
