Edgehill students invited to take trip around the world, via neighborhood library
11/23/2009
12:11 pm
Third through sixth graders in the Edgehill neighborhood will have the opportunity to interact with educational leaders from around the world Dec. 3 during Passport Day at the Edgehill Library.
The event will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and is free and open to the public. The library is located at 1409 12th Ave. South in Nashville.
Members of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program at Vanderbilt University organized Passport Day in an effort to connect with their surrounding community. The Humphrey fellows are educational leaders in their home countries who are spending the year at Vanderbilt. They hail from Colombia, Jordan, Malawi, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.
The event will feature tables focused on each country with interactive exhibits. Students will visit each table, virtually traveling the globe, and will receive stamps on their passports. They will then have the opportunity to earn prizes by demonstrating their newfound knowledge of and interest in international cultures.
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, part of the Fulbright Exchange Program, is administered by the Institute of International Education with primary sponsorship from the U.S. Department of State. This is the first year that Vanderbilt University has hosted Humphrey Fellows.
