Housing and urban development in Nashville and more subject of free Oct. 30 conference

The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Mayborn and Home Economics buildings at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. Metered parking is available on 18th and 19th avenues. Conference sessions include “The Contours of Mixed Income Living in Music City” from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.; “Jefferson Street Renewal Project” from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.; “Up Against the Wall: Young Black Men and the Scholar Identity Institute” also from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.; “Pediatric Community Obesity Programs: Barriers and Facilitators toward Sustainability” from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m.; and many more. The Center for Community Studies conducts academic research and serves as an institutional resource for community partners working to address specific societal challenges. In addition to publishing scientific research findings and policy analyses, center members collaborate with government agencies, non-profit organizations and other groups locally, nationally and internationally in a variety of ways to help understand and address community issues.
