Vanderbilt alumna Ashley Esser given Fulbright ScholarshipEsser will study in Italy during the 2009-2010 academic year

Esser recently graduated from Columbia University with a Masters of Arts in literacy education. She attended Vanderbilt from 2004 to 2008 and received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education and art history. While at Vanderbilt, she volunteered for activities such as Fashion for a Cause, Alternative Spring Break and Reading Is Fundamental. It was also while at Vanderbilt that Esser began her work in elementary education that continues today. She volunteered in a classroom at Susan Gray Elementary School in Nashville, and learned about adapted instructions for autism through observing and working with a child with autism. Fulbright recipients are among more than 40,000 individuals participating in U.S. Department of State exchange programs each year. For more than 60 years, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has funded and supported programs that seek to promote mutual understanding and respect between the people of the United States and the people of the more than 155 other participating countries.
