Journalist T.R. Reid talks rescuing health care Nov. 1311/6/2009
3:03 pm
Reid’s talk, “Rescuing our Bankrupt Health Care System: Looking for Answers Around the World,” will be held in the Board of Trust Room at the Student Life Center. The event is sponsored by Project Dialogue, a yearlong, university-wide program that seeks to involve the Vanderbilt community in public debate and discussion. The program also attempts to connect classroom learning with larger societal issues. The theme for this year’s Project Dialogue is “Civility and Justice for Whom?” In his most recent book, The Healing of America: A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper and Fairer Health Care, Reid chronicles his global tour of hospitals and doctors’ offices in an effort to understand how other industrialized nations provide affordable, effective universal health care. A Washington Post reporter and frequent contributor to National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, Reid was also the lead correspondent for the 2008 Frontline documentary “Sick Around the World,” which examined five other capitalist democracies, looking for lessons on health care. Reid is also the author of Confucius Lives Next Door: What Living in the East Teaches Us About Living in the West and The United States of Europe: The New Superpower and the End of American Supremacy. contact: Princine Lewis, 615-322-NEWS princine.lewis@vanderbilt.edu |
