SUMMARY:Free disability orientation sessions offered Nov. 14
DESCRIPTION:The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt will offer two free 2-hour disability orientation sessions on Saturday\, Nov. 14.\nThe sessions have been aptly named\, “Journeys in Disability\,” and they will provide support and educate in the following areas\:\n• Important terms\, definitions\, and relevant laws\n• People-first language and civil rights issues\n• Sources of information and support\n• Federal\, state\, and local non-profit agencies\n• Choices that lead to more positive outcomes\n• Notebook with resources\nThe first session will be held from 9 to 11 a.m.  and is for parents/caregivers of children under 12.\nThe second session will be held 1  to 3 p.m. and is meant for adults and high school students with disabilities\, their families and support personnel.\n9-11 a.m. for families with children 12 and under\n1-3 p.m. for family members\, adults and high school students with disabilities\, and support personnel\nBoth sessions will take place in room 241 Vanderbilt Kennedy Center/MRL Building. http\://kc.vanderbilt.edu/site/contact/default.aspx [http\://kc.vanderbilt.edu/site/contact/default.aspx] and are free and open to the public.
