SUMMARY:I-9 process to be centralized online as of Dec. 6
DESCRIPTION:Human Resources is pleased to announce a new centralized service to handle employment eligibility verification (commonly called “I-9 form” and “E-Verify”). This centralized service\, set to launch on  Dec. 6\, 2009\, simplifies the employment eligibility verification processes and removes I-9 responsibility from the departments.  In addition\, this new service ensures collection of the documentation necessary for Vanderbilt to maintain compliance as a federal contractor.\nWith the new centralized service\, the I-9 and E-Verify process is completed in a few easy steps.  Hiring managers simply provide the new employee with the Web address that will furnish the new employee with the I-9 process information – it is that easy. \nThe new employee provides personal information through a secure\, online Web site prior to the first day of work.  If the newly hired employee does not have access to the Internet before arriving for the first day of work\, this step can be completed on the first day of employment at one of the I-9 sites.  Once at work\, the new employee takes eligibility documents (a list is provided at the online Web site) to one of the I-9 sites. \nDan Cline\, director of HR Processing\, stated that “he believes this service will definitely make the process easier for departments and new employees.  Dahlia French\, director of the Office of International Services\, adds that “the centralized sites are an excellent idea especially as the I-9 and E-Verify processes have such growing federal government scrutiny.  OIS has always done the I-9 for international employees because of their unique immigration documents so we don’t expect the additional E-Verify duties to be burdensome.” \nThe eight I-9 sites are conveniently situated throughout campus and are within easy walking distance of every building.  The newly hired employee simply takes his or her eligibility documents to one of these I-9 sites no later than the third day of employment.\nThe site locations are\:\n * HR Processing\, Baker Bldg\n * HR Express\, 2525 West End\n * Village @ Vanderbilt Recruiting\, 1514 Villages at Vanderbilt\, 21st Avenue\n * HR @ Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital\, Suite 2525 VCH\n * Student Financial Aid\n * Office of International Services\n * International Student and Scholar Services\n * One Hundred Oaks (will be open in mid-November 2009)\nWatch for further announcements about this new service in the coming weeks.\nContact\:  I9@vanderbilt.edu [mailto\:I9@vanderbilt.edu]
