SUMMARY:Chancellor encourages parental involvement in schools
DESCRIPTION:Vanderbilt’s partnership with our local K-12 schools is an important component in our mission of advancing and supporting education. As a university community\, we value the important role that parents play in their child’s educational experience.  Providing flexibility that allows faculty and staff to visit their children in school is one way Vanderbilt fosters an environment that promotes parental involvement.\nFriday\, Aug. 14\, marks the first day for Metro Nashville’s Public Schools\, and independent schools and schools in surrounding counties begin classes on varying days.  While it is impossible\, due to the critical nature of our work\, to allow all parents to accompany their child on the first day of school\, supervisors and coworkers are urged to work cooperatively and collaboratively to permit flexibility so parents can join their children on the first day or visit during the next few weeks.  Faculty and staff are encouraged to use accrued personal or vacation time for these important school visits.\nVanderbilt takes great pride in supporting our area schools\, and I heartily applaud your involvement in your child’s education.\nSincerely\,\nNicholas S.
