Vanderbilt Football Coach James Franklin got some great presents for his 39th birthday, which fell on National Signing Day, Feb. 2.
"Because of this staff, I was able to open up a lot of presents this morning," Franklin said.
Two four-star recruits signed to play for the Commodores: Lafonte Thourogood out of Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Va., at quarterback, and Dillon van der Wal out of Oaks Christian High School in Woodland Hills, Calif., at tight end/defensive end. Both had verbally committed elsewhere, but ended up signing with the Commodores.
Other signees included Brentwood Academy defensive back Derek King, two more quarterback players, and a heavy emphasis on linemen: four offensive linemen, four defensive linemen and one who can play both.
Feb. 8 is open walk-on tryouts for VU students. March 18 spring practice begins. April 17 is the Black & Gold Spring Game.
