Nashville musicians join Rock Band competition Nov. 17

Posted 11/16/2009

Four top Nashville session musicians will be competing and performing at the Rock Band™ Vandy competition this Tuesday, Nov. 17.

The Rock Band™ competition will take place at 8 p.m. in the Student Life Center Ballroom. The competition will benefit the W.O. Smith Nashville Community Music School, which provides music lessons to children from low-income families.   The competition was organized to follow a visit to campus from Eran Egozy, co-founder and chief technical officer of Harmonix Music Systems.  Egozy who developed Rock Band™, and its predecessor, Guitar Hero, will speak at 4:30 in the Student Life Center at Vanderbilt, 310 25th Ave. S. The talk will address creativity, the business of video games and the cultural influence of interactive music-inspired games. It is free and open to the public.

The session musicians playing on Tuesday night will include Dennis Holt on drums, Chris Rodriguez and Jeff King on guitar, and Duncan Mullins on bass. Between them, these four musicians have played with such well-known artists as Taylor Swift, Hank Williams Jr., Amy Grant, Kenny Rogers, Brooks and Dunn, Shania Twain, and Reba McEntire.

The Nashville musicians will kick off the competition, setting a bar for other competitors. The musicians will also bring their own instruments, giving those in attendance a chance to compare their Rock Band™ performance with the real thing.

The competition winner receives a Rock Band™ game (software and gear); door prizes include a Rock Band™ game and a guitar.
