A number of events - most of them free - taking place this week celebrate India and its culture. Events include:

BOLLYWOOD’S INDIA:
Three exciting events to shed light on Hindi cinema’s depiction of history and nation.
Sponsored by: Asian Studies Program, Department of History, Film Studies Program, and International Lens Film Series.

Tues., Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in Sarratt Cinema
Naya Daur, India (1957, subtitled) a Dilip Kumar classic directed by B.R. Chopra
Presented by: Samira Sheikh, assistant professor, Department of History

Fri., Nov. 13 at 4:10 pm in Buttrick 101
A public talk on Bollywood’s India
Presented by: Professor Rachel Dwyer, SOAS, University of London

Sun., Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. in Sarratt Cinema
Lage Raho Munnabhai, India (2007, subtitled) a musical comedy directed by Rajkumar Hirani
Presented by: Samira Sheikh, assistant professor, Department of History

FLYING ON ONE ENGINE:
This documentary film explores the complexities of an eccentric humanitarian

Thurs., Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in Sarratt Cinema
Flying On One Engine, USA (2008), Producer/Director: Joshua Z. Weinstein
A doctor travels to India to perform free operations in marathon-like surgery sessions where up to 700 children receive treatment for their cleft lips. Reception for director immediately following film.


All these events are free and open to the public. Free parking for the film screenings is available on campus close to Sarratt Student Center in Zone 2 Lot 2 off West End Ave at 23rd Ave South. For questions call 322-6400.
