Holiday celebrations held on campus
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center held "A Sustainable Kwanzaa" with soul food buffet and special guest Gwynelle Dismukes. Dismukes is the author of Practicing Kwanzaa Year Round and Black 2 the Future.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, faculty, staff and students gathered together at the Wyatt Center to celebrate a Peabody tradition, Hanging of the Green.

Hanging of the Green is a centuries old custom that celebrated the Winter Solstice. Each household hung the green over their doorway as a charm to protect from evil and bad luck for the ensuing year.  The boughs stood as symbols for future hope and prosperity.

The festivities included a gingerbread house competition judged by Peabody faculty and staff members.
