Posted 8/25/2008

More than 1,700 new Vanderbilt University students, including first-year and transfer students, carried banners and marched into the school’s main gate Sunday evening during Founders Walk, a tradition that formally welcomes new students to the Vanderbilt community.
The students march past the statue of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt and are greeted by administrators, faculty, students, alumni and staff. Following the procession, Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos, Dean of Students Mark Bandas and Vanderbilt Student Government President Joseph Williams spoke before the students induction to the university’s honor system by Honor Council President and Vanderbilt senior Abby Stufflebam.
