Sun Rings, an evening-length work in 10 movements, will be performed by the Kronos Quartet with the Blair School of Music Choir on Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. at Ingram Hall. The concert is part of Vanderbilt’s Great Performances series.

Sun Rings was written by "Father of Minimalism" and longtime Kronos collaborator Terry Riley. It is a multimedia production featuring celestial sounds and images from space. The piece, commissioned for Kronos by NASA and others, has since been performed in cities including London, San Francisco, Calgary, Tucson and Boston.

Tickets are on sale at the Sarratt Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster telecharge at 615.255.9600, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Single ticket prices are $34, $30, and $26 for individuals, $14 for VU Faculty/Staff, $10 for all area students/children with a valid ID, and $5 for VU students.

For more than 30 years, the Kronos Quartet has pursued a singular artistic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to expanding the range and context of the string quartet. Kronos reaps the benefit of these 30 years of wisdom while maintaining a fresh approach to music-making inspired by a new generation of composers and performers.

Riley states, "Space is surely the realm of dreams and imagination and a fertile feeding ground for poets and musicians. Ancient astrologers were aware of the significant influences of planetary movements on our lives. I feel these influences are somehow responsible for this amazing collaboration which has been so enthusiastically undertaken by all the participants responsible for its outcome. Do the stars welcome us into their realms? I think so or we would not have made it this far. Do they wish us to come in Peace? I am sure of it."

If available, tickets will be sold the night of the performance at the box office, however only cash or check is accepted at Ingram Hall. For more information, please visit www.vanderbilt.edu/greatperformances/kronos.html.
