Vanderbilt faculty rank among most productive in nation

Posted 11/29/2007

Academic Analytics, a for-profit company that ranks faculty productivity, has once again placed multiple Vanderbilt programs in its top 10. The Peabody special education and evaluation and research programs both ranked No. 1.

“These rankings are continuing evidence of the excellence of our faculty and their tremendous impact on their respective fields,” Peabody Dean Camilla Benbow said. “Though not surprised by our high marks, I am delighted that we have been recognized again in this way.”

According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, the rankings are derived through a formula that takes into account the “number of professors in a given program, the number of books and journal articles they have written, the number of times other scholars have cited them, and the awards, honors and grant dollars they have received.”

Vanderbilt programs ranking in the top 10 were: ancient studies (8);  biomedical sciences, general (4); biophysics (10); educational evaluation and research (1); human development and family studies, general (2); human and medical genetics (7); languages, various (7); pharmacology (6); physiology, general (3); psychology, various (2); and special education (1).
