Meharry Medical College is subject of 6th Annual Levi Watkins Jr. Lecture
The 6th Annual Levi Watkins, Jr. Lecture, "Diversity in the Health Professions Matters: The Untold Story of Meharry Medical College" by Wayne J. Riley, president and CEO of Meharry Medical College, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at noon in room 208 in Light Hall. A reception will follow.

Riley became Meharry's President and CEO on Jan. 1, 2007.  He came to Meharry from Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as vice president and vice dean of health affairs and governmental relations and associate professor of medicine.

The annual Levi Watkins Jr. lecture was created in honor of Levi Watkins, Jr. M.D., a distinguished physician and researcher who, in 1966, became the first African American student to be admitted to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He graduated in 1970 and was also selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He embodies the attributes important in serving as a renowned role model for those who pursue careers in medicine and the biomedical sciences.
