REQUESTING DATA SETS

The use of these data files is subject to U.S. Federal regulatory mandates pertaining to research involving the protection of human subjects.

Complete (deidentified) survey data files (in SPSS and STATA formats) are available from The Department of Political Science at Vanderbilt University and must be requested in writing (email).  There four ways to access the data:

1. By reading the country reports that are available on line at  Studies by Country & Year  and  Studies by Theme

2. By using the on-line data analysis tool at Online Data Analysis

3. By subscribing to the AmericasBarometer series REQUEST ACCESS TO DATASETS

4. By requesting SPSS or STATA copies of individual (pre 2004) data sets, following the instructions below.  IMPORTANT: No fee will be charged to nationals requesting data sets from their home country.  For each survey, please send a check made out to "Vanderbilt University" of $250 (exclusively to cover administrative costs ). Send the check to: Ms. Tonya Mills, Grants Administrator, Department of Political Science, Vanderbilt University, Box 1817 Station B, Nashville, TN 37325, United States.


IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE DATA SETS: Users of the LAPOP data sets should read carefully the corresponding reports and/or articles for details of the sample designs of these surveys. Some of the samples are weighted, others are not. For weighted data sets, to obtain correct results, the appropriate weight variable, normally called WT, must be applied.
