Drawn from the library's more than 3.5 million volumes, The Book as Art offers a dazzling display of fine books from nine centuries of bookmaking. In addition to the display The Book as Art: Beautiful Books in Special Collections, there are three satellite presentations: The Book as Art: Sacred Texts -- Divinity Library, The Book as Art: Children's Literature -- Peabody Library,and The Book as Art: Musical Notation -- The Martha Rivers Ingram Center for the Performing Arts. Please check http://hours.library.vanderbilt.edu [http://hours.library.vanderbilt.edu] to find out the operating hours for each library.

Vanderbilt University's Department of Art is pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibits in the Space 204 gallery. &#x22;No Going Back&#x22; by Barbara Yontz and &#x22;Aesthetic Predicament&#x22; by Quintin Owens will open Friday, May 18, and continue through Friday, June 29, 2012.
An opening reception will be held Friday, May 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

New York and Nashville-based artist Barbara Yontz fascinates us with her use of sound, video and natural materials such as wool and hair. The centerpiece of this new sculptural exhibit is her 2009 work, The Star Womb Project: Monad to Nomad, an 8 foot dome-shaped structure made of wool, silk and hog gut representing not only a womb or cave but creating a nurturing listening space. It was inspired by research on the first star by astrophysicist Daniel Wolf Savin.

Currently an associate professor of art at St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York, Yontz has exhibited her work extensively, including the Phoenix Gallery, Chelsea, NY; The Frist Center for Visual Arts, Nashville, TN.; the Jose Marti National Library, Havana, Cuba; The Boston Museum School in Boston, MA; and the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, NJ.

Quintin Owens' installation work is a gathering of past memories and experiences in which he utilizes a wide range of materials - from taxidermy and clay to balloons and construction materials - working to recall a sense of moment that can never be relived.

Describing himself as &#x22;a mid-western kid, who after shoveling manure, stocking shelves, bailing straw, washing dishes, weeding mint and beans, feeding the hungry, and serving the drunk, decided that art making was the glue that stuck everything together.&#x22;
Currently studio assistant in the Department of Art. Owens has shown his work at Nexus 2012, University of Tennessee&#x26;iacute;s Downtown Gallery, Knoxville, TN; Marsh Gallery, Indianapolis, IN; the Zoller Gallery, University Park, PA; and the Coleman Burke Gallery New York, NY. He received his MFA from The Pennsylvania State University and BFA from the Herron School of Art and Design.

Space 204 is located at 25th Avenue South and Garland in the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Art Center on the Vanderbilt campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 pm. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

For more information, contact the Department of Art at 343-7241 or visit the website www.vanderbilt.edu/arts [http://www.vanderbilt.edu/arts].

Tai Chi, a form of mind-body exercise, originated as a martial art in China. It utilizes slow, gentle movements along with deep breathing and relaxation to build strength and flexibility. The theory of Tai Chi is deeply rooted in the principles of Yin and Yang, a philosophy of complementary and interdependent opposites. The practice of Tai Chi emphasizes balance between movement and tranquility; between breath and relaxation.

These classes are a moving meditation and a powerful key to relaxation, reducing stress, increasing strength and concentration. The form of Tai Chi taught is from the Yang style. It is appropriate for those experiencing chronic pain or illness or anyone looking for a relaxing form of movement.

			<description>Beautiful books as works of art is the theme of a year-long exhibit at the Jean and Alexander Heard libraries.

Describing himself as &#x22;a mid-western kid, who after shoveling manure, stocking shelves, bailing straw, washing dishes, weeding mint and beans, feeding the hungry, and serving the drunk, decided that art making was the glue that stuck everything together.&#x22;

			<description>This month's meeting will be held in the law school and will offer a presentation from Dave Delaney [http://www.davemadethat.com/], followed by networking opportunity in the school's atrium.
Dave is a Nashville-based digital marketing consultant/executive coach/public speaker who has great insights into all things digital and social. Dave's presentation, which he presented at both Explore Nashville and PodCamp Nashville in April, is all about new networking. He will address how we interact online, but also how true relationships are formed in person - an important reminder in a rapidly growing digital world.
Please RSVP [mailto:molly.e.williams@vanderbilt.edu] to guarantee we have enough space for everyone!

			<description>Atlanta - Ronald McDonald House - Emory
May 22, 2012 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: Ronald McDonald House @ Emory, 792 Gatewood Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30329

We will be preparing and serving a meal to the families staying at RMH. Everyone is welcome to stay and eat the dinner we cook with the families.

Cost $10 per person (this will be used to purchase the food for the meal)
Space is limited - register below now!

Minimum age for volunteers is 9 years old.

About RMH: Here, families find the comforts of home, including meals provided by volunteers and emotional support through contact with families in similar situations. The Family Meal program provides a much needed service to families of very sick children during their most difficult days. The Family Meal Program is important because these families don't have the extra time, resources or energy to prepare or purchase an evening meal. This valued service would not be possible without volunteers.

Beginner paced yoga class with a focus on building strength, flexibility, stamina, and balance. Students will learn healthy and healing body alignment in and through yoga poses--breaking poses down so that new or refreshing students can understand how classical yoga postures work and how to implement them in a home practice. Students learn breath awareness and the therapeutic benefits of synching movement with breath. Appropriate for individuals interested in a traditional yoga class, including first time students. Instructors are able to show modifications for each pose and for general health concerns.

Describing himself as &#x22;a mid-western kid, who after shoveling manure, stocking shelves, bailing straw, washing dishes, weeding mint and beans, feeding the hungry, and serving the drunk, decided that art making was the glue that stuck everything together.&#x22;
