Centennial Park Bandshell, Centennial Park, 2600 West End Ave.

Vanderbilt-sponsored event: Enjoy this free Shakespeare in Centennial Park starting Thursday, Aug. 14, with the Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s production of the politically-themed Coriolanus. It’s the story of a war hero who finds himself caught in the political machinery of Rome when he becomes a reluctant candidate for the highest office in the land.

This is the 21st annual production for the festival, which is collaborating this year with Naked Stages to produce one of the Bard’s most relevant and ironic tragedies. Pre-show entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. with performances following at 7:30 p.m. Coriolanus will be performed Thursday through Sunday, including Labor Day, through Sept. 7 at the Centennial Park Bandshell.
