Approximately 20 Latin American economists who are affiliated with the United Nations Development Program will meet on campus Jan. 23 and 24 to discuss the measurement of economic inequality and its impact on development. Professor of Economics James Foster, who has done extensive research in this area, will join the visiting economists for the two-day conference. The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) is pleased to host the meeting, said Edward F. Fischer, center director and professor of anthropology. “This is a great honor that recognizes the center’s prominence in Latin American studies and specialization in the region’s economic development,” he said. The meeting is by invitation only. For more information, contact Norma Antillon at 2-2527.
