Japanese Consul General Hiroshi Sato told those gathered March 18, when he first heard Vanderbilt would hold a candlelight vigil for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in his country, “I never imagined so many students and members of the local community” would join in. A diverse group of approximately 200 sang, prayed, listened to music and lit candles in memory of those lost in the devastation and in solidarity with those struggling in its aftermath.
