Writing Activities in a Computer Lab

Many "W" classes have had success using the Daedalus Integrated Writing Environment (DIWE) in the Garland Computer Lab. (Click here for more info.) But you can also get a lot done simply by having students bring their essays in on disk and asking them to work on them in the lab under your supervision. It is probably most effective to run a group activity first that focuses on a particular aspect of writing in order to model what you want your students to work on. The Garland lab has a projector for the instructor's work station, as does the lab in the library (which has room for a maximum of 15 students). Below is one sample of lab session.
