Public Address Conference Held to Honor
BRUCE GRONBECK


Vanderbilt University is pleased to host the 10th Biennial Public Address Conference and to honor Bruce Gronbeck, the A. Craig Baird Distinguished Professor of Public Address at the University of Iowa.



Professor Gronbeck received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1970.  He works primarily in the area of rhetorical and media studies, with particular interests in contemporary television and politics.  He teaches and writes about American cultural studies and the evolution of rhetorical thought, especially from the 18th century to the present.  He is a Fulbright Senior Specialist and Honorary Member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. Professor Gronbeck has received numerous awards such as the National Communication Association Mentor Award (2002), the Distinguished Service Award from the National Communication Association (1999), the Golden Anniversary Distinguished Scholar in American Argumentation Award (1999), and the Distinguished Scholar Award Fellow from the National Communication Association (1998).

Professor Gronbeck is a member of the Society for the Study of Argumentation, the Rhetoric Society of America, the Alta Conference Board, the Central States Communication Association, the Kenneth Burke Society, and the Public Address Society.  He has authored, co-authored, and edited eleven books including Communication Criticism: Rhetoric, Social Codes, Cultural Studies (Prospect Heights, IL: Waveland Press, 2001) and Presidential Campaigns and American Self Images (Boulder, CO: Westview, 1994).
