Vanderbilt Junior Stephen Derryberry, a Molecular and Cellular Biology major, received the first ever student research presentation award given by the Tennessee Mosquito and Vector Control Association during their second annual meeting in Nashville on February 12th, 2013.  Stephen was the only undergraduate competitor among a field of graduate students from UT Knoxville and Austin Peay.  Stephen's seminar entitled, "Pharmacological Characterization of AgAMT1 as a Potential Ammonia Sensor in Anopheles gambiae", summarized the results of his studies over the course of the past year in the laboratory of Dr. Laurence Zwiebel in the Department of Biological Sciences.  In addition to this honor, Stephen has accepted an early admission to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.  Pictured is Stephen receiving his award from TMVCA president Dr. Abelardo Moncayo, State Medical Entomologist and Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Preventive Medicine, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
